Indian-American former journalist Kush Desai has been appointed Deputy Press Secretary for the White House Office of Communications under President Donald Trump’s administration. His appointment is part of a broader wave of key staffing announcements made by the President on January 24.

Desai will serve under Taylor Budowich, Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications and Public Liaison and Cabinet Secretary, helping shape the White House’s messaging strategy and public communications.

An Experienced Communications Professional

Desai brings substantial experience from his time in strategic communications for the Republican Party. Most notably, he served as Deputy Battleground States and Pennsylvania Communications Director at the Republican National Committee (RNC), where he played a pivotal role in shaping the messaging strategy for key battleground states, particularly Pennsylvania. Trump ultimately secured victories in all seven battleground states.

He also previously held roles as Deputy Communications Director for the 2024 Republican National Convention and Communications Director for the Republican Party of Iowa.

A graduate of Dartmouth College, Desai is recognized for his strong background in political media strategy and journalism.
