NY State’s Indian American Senator highlights achievements in 2024

New York State Senator Jeremy A. Cooney, an Indian American, made a year-end statement on achievements during 2024, on initiatives undertaken by him.

“Thrilled to share some amazing community achievements this year from our office! With over 400 constituent cases resolved and more than 1,000 opinions gathered, we’re ready to serve the wonderful residents of #ROC even better in the coming year!” Sen. Cooney said in an X post on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2024 morning.

Sen. Cooney, who represents District 56 in New York and is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Transportation, brought in significant amounts of funding for various initiatives in his jurisdiction.

In November, he announced support for young people who have cancer. 13thirty Cancer Connect, a local nonprofit, received a $10,000 donation from Sen. Cooney, to help the organization jump start an important new initiative by the organization.

In October, Sen. Cooney announced more than $1.5 million through the New York State Aid for Library Construction program for both the Greece and Rochester Public Library systems. These funds are a part of the $34 million in capital funds for public library construction and broadband infrastructure projects Senator Cooney helped secure in the FY 2023-2024 State Budget.

In September he announced $200,000 in state funding he secured for the Gates Fire District to construct a new facility to conduct routine training as well as Candidate Physical Ability Tests (CPAT), a required test that measures an individual’s ability to handle the physical demands of being a firefighter. He also announced legislation to promote home-ownership; helped bring in close to a quarter million dollars for Boys and Girls Clubs in Rochester, NY, to name a few others.
