She is the great great granddaughter of Sir Ganga Ram Agarwal, after whom the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi is named. He was a renowned Indian philanthropist, civil engineer, and politician during the British Raj, according to his biography on the Hospital website. He made significant contributions to the development of infrastructure in Punjab, including the construction of canals, railways, and roads. He was also the founder of the famous Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Lahore, which continues to provide medical care to millions of people in Pakistan, the website says.

Kesha Ram is the first woman of color to serve in the Vermont State Senate, and is chair of the Senate Economic Development, Housing & General Affairs Committee.

She also sits on the Senate Finance Committee and the Joint Justice Oversight Committee.

Ram received a BS in natural resource planning and a BA in political science from the University of Vermont in 2008. She earned her Master of Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government in 2018. When not in the legislature, Ram teaches Structural Inequality and Environmental Justice at Vermont Law & Graduate School.

The Senator lives with her husband, Jacob Hinsdale, and their new baby Mira in Shelburne, Vermont.
